США должны рационально определять своих союзников и врагов, а затем действовать соответственно. Они никогда не должны обеспечивать национальную оборону других стран, которые в основном претендуют на суверенитет. Рациональный эгоизм не оправдывает ни пацифизм, ни изоляционизм, ни империализм. Америка не сможет сохранить свою сущность или институты, не сможет вновь найти способ вести и выигрывать только правильные войны, не следуя эгоистическому принципу. Она должна быть моральным образцом для всего мира, но никак не его полицейским.
